Dental Implants by cosmetic dentist near Fleet

November 1st, 2012

Dental Implants are now part of comprehensive dental care.  Replacing missing teeth with dental implants is now becoming common place.

The fixed options for replacing missing teeth are either dental bridges or dental implants.  The advantages of dental implants are that adjacent teeth to the gap do not need to be ground down which is required for a bridge and the dental implants also help to preserve the bone in place.

A patient came to Time Dental near Fleet having broken his front tooth in an accident.  We discussed the options above and he opted for a dental implant.  The dental implant is a titanium root that replaces the root of the missing tooth.  Once it is integrated a tooth is attached to the implant.  Dental implants have a success rate of 98% and can make a huge difference to your dental health as well as cosmetically.

Patients near Winchester feel confident with dental implants at Time Dental

August 22nd, 2012

Missing teeth need not end in wearing dentures.  A patient came to Time Dental near Winchester having broken his upper front teeth.  One tooth was broken badly and the other front upper tooth was completely lost in his accident.  He was looking for a fixed option as he wanted to feel confident and did not want to end up with dentures.

We discussed his options for a fixed solution which was either a bridge or a dental implant to replace his missing tooth.  Bridges are a great option to replace missing teeth.  They involve preparing the teeth on either side of the gap to replace the missing tooth.  They are fixed in place and can last many years.

The other option was an implant.  An implant is a titanium root which replaces the missing root of the tooth.  The dental implant is precisely and carefully placed by an implant surgeon.  Once the dental implant has integrated which normally takes 3-6 months the implant is exposed so that a post can be placed to hold a crown on the post.  There is no need to touch the teeth on either side of the gap, and implants also help to preserve the bone where the root of the tooth used to be.  This helps in stabilising and maintaining support.

Time Dental provides this implant service for patients in Winchester as well as the surrounding areas in Hampshire, Surrey, West sussex and Berkshire.

Why replace missing teeth with dental implants at dentist near Guildford?

June 28th, 2012

A patient near Guildford came to Time Dental with a swelling at the gum line on one of her teeth.  She had no pain from it but she noticed the swelling was now getting bigger.

On assessing the tooth in question, it had already been root canal treated and had a crown on top.  The swelling origin was from midway up the root of the tooth.  On further investigation the root had a horizontal break thorough it which rendered the tooth unrestorable.  The only option for the tooth was extraction.

This particular tooth was a molar chewing tooth and so the chewing function for the patient would have been decreased after extraction. The other problem that may occur when losing a tooth is teeth drifting and tilting into the space.  This can result in a change of the bite and also cause gum problems as food would now get stuck between the open spaces of the teeth that have tilted.  The patient was keen on replacing the missing tooth and we discussed her options for filling the gap.

One fixed option would be to have a bridge.  This uses the teeth on either side for support.  A good option for replacing the missing tooth, but it does require shaping the teeth on either side of the gap to fit the bridge.  The other option is a dental implant and crown.

The dental implant is essentially a titanium root that is inserted into the jaw.  Once the dental implant has been integrated a post is fitted to the implant with a crown which fits on the post.  This is a great option for replacing missing teeth as they do not require any preparation of other teeth and the dental impants last many years.  Dental implants have success rates of higher than 95% and are an excellent option for gappy smiles, as well as heping to provide chewing function for back teeth.

Time Dental provides this service for patients from Guildford, and surrounding areas in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and West sussex.

Gum disease causes tooth loss at Dentist near Fleet

June 7th, 2012

A patient came to see us at Time Dental with loose teeth.  He had not been to see a dentist in eight years as he had a bad experience where he could feel the treatment being carried out.  He was now concerned that he would lose his teeth.

On further discussion of why he had not been to see a dentist, the local anaesthetic that was used by his previous dentist had not worked.  So we assured him that any treatment that was to be carried out we would make sure he was anaesthetised and we would test the tooth being treated before we started.

On examination he had advanced gum disease on specific teeth, and unfortunately some of these teeth could not be saved.  Gum disease results in the boney support being destroyed making the tooth loose.  But its not all and news.  Even though he had lost his natural tooth, missing teeth can still be replaced.

The gold standard being dental implants.  Once his gum disease is under control and stabilised, dental implants can be inserted to replace the missing teeth and restore his bite.

Dental implants are titanium roots that replace a tooth root.  The implant then holds a post (abutment) which in turns holds a crown.

Time Dental provides this service to patients not only in the Fleet, Farnborough, Guildford, Alton and Godalming areas but also surrounding areas in Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire.

Tooth decay causing broken tooth at dentist near Aldershot

May 3rd, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental having broken a tooth and she wanted to know what the options were for replacing it.  On discussion she had a regular diet of sticky hard sweets.  Strawberry bonbons were her favourite.  Sitcky hard foods are a nightmare for your teeth.  They can regularly break yur teeth as they are very hard.  Once they become soft and chewy they have a suction effect on your teeth and can pull off fillings and crowns.  The third thing is that they are loaded with sugar which will result in tooth decay.  All in all not a good idea to eat them!

The tooth that had broken due to the sweet had completely broken at the gum line and the root of the toth was left.  Unfortunately there is no way in saving the remainder of this tooth so it will have to be removed.  However ther are excellent fixed options to place a tooth in the gap.

One option is a dental implant.  An implant is a titanium root that replaces the missing root of your tooth.  It then holds a crown which is attached via an abutment which fits into the dental implant.  Imaplnts have 95% success rates and are an excellent choice for gaps in the mouth.  This will help to restore your function of your mouth and allow you to chew confidently again.

Another option is a dental bridge.  This uses teeth on either side of the gap for support.  The teeth on either side are prepared and impressions are then taken of the prepared teeth.  This is sent to our master ceramist where they provide a bespoke handcrafted bridge that is tooth coloured and which is very strong.  Another great choice for replacing missing teeth.

Time Dental services many patients from Aldershot as well as Fleet, Farnborough, Winchester, Alton and Guildford, and the surrounding areas in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and West Sussex.

Gaps in your smile at Alton dentists

February 12th, 2012

We had a visit from a patient who had been in an accident.  His top front tooth had completely come out and he also fractured the adjacent tooth horizontally in half.  Having been to A&E to have stitches placed in his lip and a head scan he attended at Time Dental with the facial swelling now greatly reduced.  He was clearly upset as they were his front teeth and his partner used to say that his smile was one of his best features.  He was also in a job which was customer facing and so he was obviously very aware.

Options for replacing missing teeth would be a removable denture, a fixed bridge or a dental implant.  In this particular case the denture as a long term solution was not something he wanted.  We discussed the option of having a dental bridge which uses teeth on either side for support.  This would mean preparing otherwise sound teeth.  Although this is a perfectly reasonable option, the best treatment would be to replace the tooth with a dental implant.

A dental implant is like a titanium root which is inserted into the jaw bone.  The dental implant then holds an abutment which a crown then sits onto.  The advantages of dental implants are that they replace teeth that are missing therefore preparing of adjacent teeth is not required; dental implants have 98% success rates;  they are now routinely placed at Time Dental;  there is a very quick recovery time with minimal discomfort after the implant is placed.

His other tooth which had been fractured horizontally in half would require root canal therapy, a post and then a crown.

In order to help him immediately the plan was to build up his broken tooth with composite bonding and provide him with a temporary denture for his missing tooth.  This meant that in the short term he could still meet his clients at work with a smile while we were able to deal with the broken and missing tooth for the long term.

Dental Implants at a Farnham Dentist

February 8th, 2012

A client came to see us looking for options to replace back teeth that had been taken out a number of years ago.  He was currently finding it difficult to eat and chew properly and wanted to know what his options were.

On assessing his mouth he was missing his last teeth on the top and bottom jaw and as a result was putting more pressure on his remaining teeth which made him at risk of breaking them.

One option could be to provide a denture.  This is a removable appliance that needs to be taken out daily and cleaned.  Due to the fact that it had to be taken out this was not an option that he wanted to choose.

A fixed option could be a bridge as long as there were teeth on either side of the gap.  This was not the case for this patient as he was missing his last teeth at the back.

The other option is a dental implant.  This is  titanium root that is placed into the jaw.  The dental implant then holds a post onto which a crown is fitted.  Dental implants are an excellent option for missing teeth with 98% success rates.  They are routinely placed by a specialist implant surgeon, Dr Queseshi at Time Dental and the crown is then placed by the restorative dentist Dr Rashid.  The advantage of placing implants are the high success rates, ease of placement, excellent longevity, and no need to prepare any adjacent teeth.

Dental implants in Farnham, Surrey

November 20th, 2011

Having lost two teeth, a client came to see us in Farnham to discuss what options he had for replacing the missing teeth.  Removable options would be a denture which was not appealing to the patient for obvious reasons.  Fixed options were either having a bridge or having dental implants in place.

A bridge uses teeth on one or both sides of the gap for supporting a tooth which replaces the missing one.  If the missing tooth is one of the molars the supporting teeth often need to be prepared as if they were to be crowned.  Impressions are then taken of the prepared teeth and then sent to the laboratory.  A bespoke handcrafted bridge is then constructed in either metal ceramic or all-ceramic.

A dental implant simply replaces the tooth which is missing.  The teeth on either side of the gap are therefore untouched.  A dental implant is essentially a titanium root replacement.  Once the implant has been put into place, impressions of the implant using special impression abutments are taken and then sent to the lab for fabrication.  Implants have a fantastic succes rate of 98% and are now routinely placed at Time Dental.

The pateint opted for the dental implants which were carefully put into place.  There is now a period time for the implant to integrate with the surrounding tissues, and a crown will be placed on top very soon.
