Orthodontic braces for adults at dentist in Farnham, Surrey

September 27th, 2012

Adults are opting for straight teeth for a confident smile.  Metal train track braces may still be for teenagers but there are a number of different invisible braces options for adults.

A patient came to Time Dental in Farnham, Surrey looking for options to straighten her teeth.  She was in her late thirties and had one upper tooth out of alignment since a child.  She had heard about adult braces and wanted to know what could be done to help her.  She was now very self conscious of her smile.

One option to straighten her teeth would be to use tooth coloured fixed braces.  Due to them being the same colour as your teeth they are quite discreet. If having fixed brackets is still not what you want Invisalign clear aligners may be your answer.  They are removable adult braces and are virtually invisible and can help you straighten your crooked smile to give you more confidence.  As they are removable you can still eat the foods you enjoy and keep your gums healthy as you can easily clean in between your teeth.  A further option could be the Inman aligner which can straighten your teeth in a matter of weeks.  This is also a removable orthodontic brace that moves your front upper or lower teeth by using gentle pressure form special springs.

Time Dental provides this orthodontic adult braces service in Farnham as well as other areas in Surrey, Hampshire, West Sussex and Berkshire.

cosmetic dentures at Surrey dentist in Farnham

Dentures are not what they used to be.  Now you can have cosmetic dentures that mimic the look of natural teeth so that you can have a confident smile.

A patient came to Time Dental in Farnham, Surrey looking for help to smile confidently.  He had neglected his dental health and only attended when he was in pain.  This had led to a patch up style dentistry and was not beneficial for his overall dental health.  He had a very bad experience as a child and now he was in his mid seventies and was still apprehensive about dental care.  He had finally decided to explore comprehensive dental care and was looking for a dentist that would provide cosmetic dentistry as well as helping him keep his  mouth healthy.

On assessing his mouth the majority of his remaining teeth had severe gum disease and decay.  This had resulted in hiss teeth becoming very loose and gums sore and bleeding.  When gum disease and dental decay has taken hold to this extent there would be no option but to remove the teeth.  Fortunately this did not mean that he would be left with a gummy smile.  Immediate cosmetic dentures can provisionally provide a confident smile and allow him to chew without being in discomfort.  Once healing of the gums had taken place, the options could be to provide a fixed bridge with dental implants, a cosmetic denture retained by dental implants or a new set of stable dentures.

Time Dental provides this service to patients in Surrey as well as surrounding areas of Hampshire, West sussex, and Berkshire.

Straight teeth with Invisible adult braces at dentist near Winchester

July 9th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental in Farnham looking for options to straighten her upper front teeth.  It had been bothering her for sometime and she had noticed the overlapping of her upper front teeth getting worse.  She wasn’t sure of what her options were but was certain she did not want to have fixed braces as she would be too self conscious.

On assessing her mouth she had mild overlapping or crowding of her upper front incisors.  We discussed her options.  One option was the Inman aligner. A removable brace that is relatively discreet but can move teeth in a matter of weeks.  The inman aligner is a new adult orthodontic brace that squeezes the teeth very gently into position.  A very fast and effective way to straighten adult teeth.  The inman aligner is design only to mover the front four upper or lower incisors into a straight position.

Another option is the invisalign adult clear aligner system.  This uses virtually invisible clear aligners that gradually move teeth and straighten them.  The invisible braces are changed every two weeks.  Treatment time can take 8-24 months depending on the amount of movement that needs to be made.  Another discreet way to staighten your front teeth without people knowing that your are doing it!  The invisalign adult braces allows for a greater number of teeth that can be moved.

Time Dental provides this adult invisible braces system for patients in Winchester as well as the surrounding towns in Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and West sussex.

Straight teeth with invisible adult braces at dentist Farnham

A patient came to Time Dental recently looking to improve her smile.  She was always unhappy with her upper front four teeth which protruded at different angles.  She did not want to have fixed train track braces and had heard about invisible braces for adults and wanted to know more about it.

On assessing her mouth she had crowding and overlapping of her upper incisors.  She was a good candidate for both the Invisalign clear aligner system as well as the Inman aligner.

Invisalign invisible braces uses a series of clear aligners that gradually move your teeth over a period of time.  They are virtually invisible and since they are removable you can eat what you normally eat and brush and clean your teeth far easier than with train track braces.  The treatment can take between 8-24 months depending on the severity of the crowding.

The Inman aligner is also a removable brace.  Although it has clear parts to it, it is slightly more visible than the clear aligners.  However it can move teeth in a matter of weeks!  Treatment can take typically 8-16 weeks.  This orthodontic appliance is great if you want fast results.  As it is removable you can also eat normally and brush your teeth as normal.

Both options are a fantastic way for straightening teeth for adults so you can have the smile you have always wanted.

Time Dental provides this service in Farnham, Fleet, Winchester and Alton, as well as other areas in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and West sussex.

Adult Braces at Farnham dentist

May 9th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking to improve her smile.  She was unappy that her smile was not straight.  She felt they were also discoloured and she did not like the appearance of a blue line around the gums of an old crown she had at the front of her mouth.

On further investigation, her smile was not straight because her canine tooth was out of line from her other teeth.  Her teeth did have a generalised discolouration and she reported that she drank alot of tea and coffee that stains your teeth.  The crown was over ten years old and was blue at the gum line due to the metal from under the crown showing through.  She also had three porcelain veneers at the front of her mouth which was previously fitted to correct the overlapping crowded front teeth.

In order to straighten her upper teeth especially the canine, there were a couple of options.  The first option was to use orthodontic adult braces to straighten the canine tooth.  Teeth can be straightened with fixed braces or removable Invisalign adult clear braces.  Another option could be to use composite bonding on the canine to lengthen it to bring it into alignment.  Both options are viable to achieve the desired result with the gold standard being the adult orthodontic braces.

Once the teeth had been straightened, professional tooth whitening can be carried out to freshen up the smile.  Professional teeth whitening is an easy safe way to make an immediate improvement to your smile.  One thing she had to bear in mind was that when teeth whitening, crowns, veneers and fillings stay the same shade while the natural teeth will whiten. Once the teeth had been whitened we could replace the old crown with an aesthetic all-ceramic crown which gives tbe best natural look and also replace the old porcelain veneers to match the new fresher whiter smile.

Time Dental provides teeth straightening and teeth whitening for many patients in the Farnham, Fleet, Aldershot, Farnborough and Winchester areas as well as the surrounding areas in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Dental Implants at a Farnham Dentist

February 8th, 2012

A client came to see us looking for options to replace back teeth that had been taken out a number of years ago.  He was currently finding it difficult to eat and chew properly and wanted to know what his options were.

On assessing his mouth he was missing his last teeth on the top and bottom jaw and as a result was putting more pressure on his remaining teeth which made him at risk of breaking them.

One option could be to provide a denture.  This is a removable appliance that needs to be taken out daily and cleaned.  Due to the fact that it had to be taken out this was not an option that he wanted to choose.

A fixed option could be a bridge as long as there were teeth on either side of the gap.  This was not the case for this patient as he was missing his last teeth at the back.

The other option is a dental implant.  This is  titanium root that is placed into the jaw.  The dental implant then holds a post onto which a crown is fitted.  Dental implants are an excellent option for missing teeth with 98% success rates.  They are routinely placed by a specialist implant surgeon, Dr Queseshi at Time Dental and the crown is then placed by the restorative dentist Dr Rashid.  The advantage of placing implants are the high success rates, ease of placement, excellent longevity, and no need to prepare any adjacent teeth.

Invisible braces with Invisalign at Farnham dentists

Time Dental have a number of adult patients who are very keen to improve their smiles.  One such patient had really been bothered by gaps which she has had for years and wanted to know what the options were for improving her smile.

One option could be to use porcelain veneers.  Porcelain veneers are a great way to have an instant result in improving your smile.  Veneers can also be used to correct discolouration, crowding, and uneven teeth.

Another option is to move the teeth into the correct position with braces.  Many people think of metal train tracks when you mention braces to them.  However there have been huge advances in technology and now with the use of clear aligners virtually invisible braces are now available at Time Dental in Farnham.  Perfect for adults!  Now you can have the smile you have always wanted without the worry of people knowing that you are having it done.

Invisalign uses advanced computer technology in the US to provide a 3D simulation of how your teeth will be moved into the correct position.  The clear aligners are then processed and sent back to your certified Invisalign dentist.  The clear aligners are changed every 2 weeks and incrementaly move the teeth into the desired position.

Tooth decay elimanated forever!

November 29th, 2011

A new mouthwash that eliminates the main bacteria that causes tooth decay has been tested on a small group of individuals in the US.

In a recent clinical study, 12 subjects who rinsed just one time with the experimental mouthwash experienced a nearly complete elimination of the S. mutans bacteria over the entire four-day testing period.

This new mouthwash is the product of nearly a decade of research conducted by Dr Wenyuan Shi, chair of the oral biology section at the UCLA School of Dentistry.

Tooth decay or cavities takes place due to a process called demineralization.

“Demineralization” simply describes the fact that mineral content  have been dissolved out of a tooth’s hard tissues.  Demineralization takes place when a tooth is exposed to acids. It’s  a process that takes place a little bit every time a tooth is subjected to another acid attack.

So where do the acids come from?

The acids that cause tooth demineralization (cavity formation) are produced by specific types of bacteria that live in dental plaque (primarily lactobacilli and mutans streptococci).

When we eat and drink food, we create waste products. The bactiera do the same thing and their waste products are the very same acidic compounds that cause tooth demineralization.

While trials still need to be carried out on the new mouthwash, make sure you still visit your dentist and hygienist to ensure you maintain a healthy mouth.

Straightening teeth in Farnham

November 22nd, 2011

A client came to us at Time Dental having not been for a dental examination in over five years.  He wanted to know what his options were for straightening his lower front teeth which used to be straight but were now overlapping.  He was now very conscious of the crowded teeth and did not show his teeth when smiling.

He was aware that porcelain veneers were a very good option for getting instant results.  Porcelain veneers are also excellent for correcting mishapen and discoloured teeth however in his case his teeth were a good shape and did not like the idea of having his teeth prepared.  He was aware of the use of braces to move his teeth into the correct position but would feel very self conscious if he had to wear braces for a year or more.

On discussions with the patient he was not keen having train-track braces and wanted to know if there were any alternative options.  The invisible brace system Invisalign would be one option.  This uses a series of clear aligners that incremently move the teeth into the correct position.  The clear aligners are changed every 2 weeks and are virtually invisible.  The treatment time can take anything from 6 months to 24 months depending on how much movement is required.

Another option is to use the Inman aligner.  This is a removable brace that can move teeth in a matter if weeks.  It does this by using a special spring loaded bars that very gentley squeeze the teeth into a straighter position.  It’s great for moving upper or lower incisors.

The movements that we needed to achieve in this patients case invloved his canines and premolars and so he opted for the Invisalign system.  The next steps would be to take impressions of his teeth and send them to the US where they use computer technology to predict the movements required to get to the desired result.

Feel free to call us about how Invisalign or the Inamn Aligner can help you on 01252 723 008
