Porcelain veneers and crowns can make a huge impact on your smile.  Take a look at this gentleman.  He came to us having broken his bridge.  His teeth were generally discoloured and had multiple mercury fillings in the biting surface of his upper teeth.  The old fillings were failing as they had cracks in them and were very fragile.  He said he was very conscious when he was smiling and often covered his mouth with his hand.  His job involved meeting and greeting new potential clients and he was very aware that his smile was not giving him the confidence that he needed.

We discussed his options and we proposed to replace his old bridge with a new ceramic bridge and reshape a number of his teeth with porcelain veneers and also add protection to his weaker teeth with crowns.

The results speak for themselves. A very happy confident person.

Bright smile with Hygienist at dentist near Alton

stained discoloured teeth at alton dentist

Discoloured teeth can have a huge impact on your confidence when smiling.  Simple techniques of tooth brushing and visiting your hygienist regularly can make a big difference to your smile.

A patient came to see us Time Dental looking to improve her smile.  She had neglected her dental health and was very self conscious of the brown stains on her teeth.  She had not seen a hygienist in four years and regularly drank tea, coffee, red wine and beetroot juice and still wondered why her teeth were so stained!

The first thing the hygienist did was look at her current daily dental care or lack of it.  Once we had given her the right skills and tips for the best home care we started her on a course of hygiene therapy to improve her dental health and freshen her smile.  After being treated with our special sparkle polish she was beaming from ear to ear!

Brushing twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste using an electric toothbrush and cleaning interdentally can help to reduce staining and plaque buildup.  Small lifestyle changes can help to keep your teeth bright and smile fresh.  Having drinks through a straw for example helps to by-pass the teeth and not stain them.  Eating carrots and apples has  a cleaning action that helps keep teeth bright; as does eating strawberries….in moderation!

How a cosmetic dentist helped a patient near Alton

June 13th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental unhappy with the colour of their teeth.  She drank lots of tea and coffee and had noticed that her teeth were now discoloured and stained and she wanted to freshen up her smile with professional tooth whitening.

On assessing her mouth her gums had receeded significantly and she had cavities near the gum line of the teeth.  She used a manual tooth brush for her daily home care and had been brushing far too aggressively which resulted in abrasion cavities.  This had exposed the softer dentine part of the tooth which had now started to decay.

After showing her the photos of her mouth we need to get her mouth into a healthy condition first before continuing with her tooth whiteing.  We completed the mutiple fillings using composite bonding with a slighter lighter shade of composite.  This was to account for tooth whitening that she was planning to do.

Once completing the fillings we were now ready to professionally whiten her teeth.  There are two main types.  In-office tooth whitening and professional at-home tooth whitening.  The end result of both systems is the same, the in-office system is simply faster.  The professional tooth whitening system is a gentler way of tooth whitening.  This is where tooth whitening gel is placed into custom fit special trays which are then placed in the mouth for 40 minutes.  This process is then repeated daily for 10 -14 days.

Time Dental provides this service for patients in the Alton, Farnborough, and Fleet area as well as other areas of Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire.

Cosmetic dentistry at practice near Fleet

May 28th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking for a cosmetic dentist.  She had previous experience at an NHS practice and foudn that her options were very limited under this system.  She wanted continuity in care and was looking for someone to provide cosmetic dental care.  She saw our website and really liked the testimonials that our happy clients had written about us.

We discussed what she was looking for and found that she had a number of old mercury amalgam fillings that she did not like the look of, and she had significant staining on her lower teeth as she was a 20/day smoker.  Her teeth were actually in a good position and shape as she had previous orthodontic work as a teenager.

On further investigation we noted that many of her mercury fillings were failing.  Mercury amalgam fillings expand and contract over time, and they end up causing cracks to occur within the tooth.  These cracks allow bacteria to penetrate the tooth and decay will start.  At some point either the tooth will break or the filling will.  She had quite a few amalgam fillings to the point that the cusps of the back teeth were very weak and liable to break.

One option for replacing small to medium sized fillings is to use white composite fillings.  When placed by a skilled dentist, these fillings look just like the natural tooth.  White composite fillings also bond to the tooth which helps to bring the strength back.

When fillings get to a larger size onlays are often recommended.  Onlays can be made of gold, resin, or ceramic.  The ceramic onlay is a popular choice due to its strength and superior aesthetics.  At Time Dental cosmetic dentist Dr Rashid assess each individual failing mercury amalgam filling and recommend appropriately whether a direct filling or an onlay is option.

Time Dental provides this service to all patients from the Fleet, Farnborough, Alton, Winchester areas, as well as the surrounding areas of Surrey, Hampshire, West Sussex and Berkshire.

Adult Braces at Farnham dentist

May 9th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking to improve her smile.  She was unappy that her smile was not straight.  She felt they were also discoloured and she did not like the appearance of a blue line around the gums of an old crown she had at the front of her mouth.

On further investigation, her smile was not straight because her canine tooth was out of line from her other teeth.  Her teeth did have a generalised discolouration and she reported that she drank alot of tea and coffee that stains your teeth.  The crown was over ten years old and was blue at the gum line due to the metal from under the crown showing through.  She also had three porcelain veneers at the front of her mouth which was previously fitted to correct the overlapping crowded front teeth.

In order to straighten her upper teeth especially the canine, there were a couple of options.  The first option was to use orthodontic adult braces to straighten the canine tooth.  Teeth can be straightened with fixed braces or removable Invisalign adult clear braces.  Another option could be to use composite bonding on the canine to lengthen it to bring it into alignment.  Both options are viable to achieve the desired result with the gold standard being the adult orthodontic braces.

Once the teeth had been straightened, professional tooth whitening can be carried out to freshen up the smile.  Professional teeth whitening is an easy safe way to make an immediate improvement to your smile.  One thing she had to bear in mind was that when teeth whitening, crowns, veneers and fillings stay the same shade while the natural teeth will whiten. Once the teeth had been whitened we could replace the old crown with an aesthetic all-ceramic crown which gives tbe best natural look and also replace the old porcelain veneers to match the new fresher whiter smile.

Time Dental provides teeth straightening and teeth whitening for many patients in the Farnham, Fleet, Aldershot, Farnborough and Winchester areas as well as the surrounding areas in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Tooth whitening at dentist near Godalming

April 4th, 2012

Spring has come, finally!  This year winter has seems to have gone on for longer than normal.  Wedding season will be starting soon, and people generally want to look and feel better.  Time Dental are now offering their 2 for 1 tooth whitening offer back by popular demand for servicing patients in Godalming, Surrey.

Tooth whitening is an easy, safe and effective way for improving your smile.  There are two main types of tooth whitening.  In-office and professional tooth whitening.  The end result is generally the same the speed of in-office is the main advantage.

In-office tooth whitening involves placing a gel on the teeth for approximately one hour which whitens the teeth by a few shades straight away.  Some types of In-office tooth whitening use a light source to activate the gel, and other types use chemical activation.  There is no advantage of one over the other.  We recommend that you also use the professional at home kit for 2-3 sessions after in-office tooth whitening to help stabilise the tooth colour.

The professional at-home tooth whitening involves using custom fit whitening trays which are loaded with a lower concentration gel. At Time Dental your cosmetic dentist will take impressions of your teeth and using our in-house facilities fabricate your custom trays. The trays are worn for 40 minutes per day.  It normally takes 10-14 days of professional tooth whitening to achieve a great result.

Porcelain crowns at a Surrey dentist

February 22nd, 2012

A patient came to see us who was unhappy with his smile.  He was very conscious of a discoloured tooth at the front of his mouth and restricted his smile to not show his teeth.  The tooth had slowly darkened over a period of time.  He felt that if he could get this tooth looking like his other teeth it would restore his smile and his confidence when speaking to people.

On assessing the tooth, we noted that it had already been root treated and it had a very large discoloured composite white filling.  The tooth had been broken in accident some years ago and the only option to save the tooth was to root treat it.  This involved cleaning and disinfecting the inside of the tooth to prevent further infection and abscesses.  The broken tooth had then been repaired with composite bonding.

When a tooth is root treated it becomes dry and brittle and is prone to breaking.  The tooth can also discolour significantly over a period of time.  In this case half the tooth had discoloured and have the tooth was a worn compsite white filling.

We discussed the options which were to either whiten the tooth and replace the old white filling with composite bonding, or place an all-ceramic crown on the tooth to mask the darker colour and help protect it from breaking in the future.

We decided to place a porcelain crown on the tooth which is an excellent choice for this situation.  The tooth was prepared and impressions of the teeth were sent to the master ceramist.  The ceramist then hand crafted the bespoke crown which was then cemented onto the prepared tooth.  That left a very happy patient who was able to smile confidently again.

Tooth whitening at Fleet dentists

January 14th, 2012

Do you drink lots of coffee, red wine, tea or eat lots of curries?  Have you noticed the staining on your teeth? We have so many patients come to see us due to the discolouration of their teeth.  The options for freshening up your smile can vary from tooth whitening, composite bonding and porcelain veneers.

The easiest way to improve your smile is to teeth whiten.  There are two main types but the end result is essentially the same.  Professional teeth whitening and In-office teeth whitening.

Professional teeth whitening invloves placing the tooth whitening gel into custom fit whitening trays which are then placed in the mouth.  The trays are then kept in place for 45 mins.  The whole process is then repeated once a day for 10 -14 days.  Its as easy as that!

In-office teeth whitening involves placing a high concentration of teeth whitening gel which is applied by your dentist which is then kept on for at least 1 hour.  Some systems need a high intense light source to activate the gel (sometimes called Laser teeth whitening), and there are other systems that are chemically activated and do not need a light.  Normally a combined In-office with Professional teeth whitening for 2-3 days gives the desired result.  I would not recommend In-office on its own.

Which type would be best for you?  Well that depends on how fast you want it done.  If you wnat a speedier result go with the In-office tooth whitening system.
