Porcelain veneers at dentist near Farnborough

April 26th, 2013

Dentist near Farnborough, Hampshire describes what dental veneers are and how they can improve your confidence from Time DentalWhat are porcelain veneers?  Dental veneers are thin porcelain laminates that are bonded to the teeth.

They are custom fit and bespoke crafted by a master ceramist. The ceramists are more like artists of the dental world!  Once the ceramist has added effects to the veneers to make them life like they are sent back to the cosmetic dentist to bond onto the teeth.  Once they are bonded they are very strong and last many years when looked after properly.

Dental veneers can be used on single teeth or multiple teeth to make a dramatic improvement to your smile. They are often prescribed to change the shade of a tooth; improve the shape; alter the form; and improve your smile.

Stop migraine and headaches at dentists near Farnborough

February 14th, 2013

headache-saidaonline

Migraines can be debilitating especially if you suffer from ones that make you feel sick and you end up having to take a couple of days off work.  Even regular headaches can make you lose focus and have a negative impact on your life.

Did you know that headaches and migraines can be triggered by clenching of the jaw?  The term is called bruxing with is a parfanctional habit.  Contrary to common belief, functional habits such as chewing are not the main cause of the wearing of teeth. Parafunctional habits are the most destructive forces for a number of  reasons. Whereas teeth rarely come into contact during normal chewing, grinding of teeth may occur 1–4 hours in a 24 hour period, most often during sleep. The amount of force placed on teeth during functional habits is 20–80 psi (0.14–0.55 MPa), but the pressure can range from 300 to 3000 psi (2.07 to 20.7 MPa) during parafunctional habits. Thats a minimum of 15 times more pressure!

The direction of forces during functional habits are placed vertically along the long axis of teeth, which is the least harmful because of the anatomical structure of the attachemnt of teeth to the bone. On the other hand, parafunctional habits direct their forces horizontally and that is when un due stress can occur on the TMJ (temporomandibular joint).

People who suffer from headaches, neck, shoulder and backache often  have parafunctional habits.  This kind of habit can damage your teeth, jaw joint and affect your chewing muscles. The treatment to reduce the force from bruxing is straight forward: an occlusal splint or nightguard can reduce the tension by 75%.  Just ask your dentist about it and imagine less migraines and headaches in the future!

Dental phobic treated at dentist near Farnborough

December 10th, 2012

Dental phobia can be a real problem but can be helped with IV sedation.

Anxious dental patients who have phobias of visiting a dentist can be first triggered by bad experiences in the past.  When you’ve had a bad experience somewhere why would you want to go back?  That is a perfectly normal reaction.  However one bad experience does not mean your next one will be, but for some people one bad experience is enough to never return again.

This problem can now be helped with the use of sedation.  Sedation can be in the form of Oral, intravenous or inhalation  sedation.  All three forms are effective ways of controlling your anxiety levels.

Time Dental provides both oral and intravenous sedation to help nervous patients.

Cosmetic dentistry for confident smiles near Farnborough

November 13th, 2012

Cosmetic dentistry isn’t just for the movie stars.  If you have gaps between your teeth, composite bonding is a type of cosmetic dentistry that can make a huge impact on your smile.

A patient came to Time Dental near Farnborough looking for options to close the spaces between her upper front teeth.  She had orthodontic braces in the past and did not wear her retainers and the teeth had subsequently moved.  She wanted something quickly done.

We discussed the options which were adult orthodontic braces, composite bonding and porcelain veneers.  She did not want the adult orthodontic braces even though they would have worked for her.  The gaps could have been closed in the space of 6 months.  Porcelain veneers were also an option however she did not want her teeth to be prepared although the preparation would have been minimal.  However she liked the idea of composite bonding where composite filling is shaped and bonded to the teeth to improve the smile.

She was over the moon with her end result and all done in one afternoon!  Call us to see how we can help you to improve your smile.

Cosmetic dentist for tooth whitening near Farnborough, Hampshire

October 4th, 2012

Cosmetic dentistry can range from tooth whitening, cosmetic recontouring, smile makeover with veneers, as well as composite bonding.

A patient at Time Dental near Farnborough in Hampshire had just finished a course of orthodontic adult braces.  The gaps between her upper and lower teeth had been closed and they were in a straight position.  However now that they were straight, she noticed that the teeth were very discoloured and the edges of the teeth were uneven.

We discussed her options for brightening her smile with tooth whitening.  One option is the in-office tooth whitening system.  This is where a high concentrated tooth whitening gel is painted onto the teeth and can whiten the teeth in an hour.  Another option is the professional tooth whitening at-home kit.  This is where special custom fit tooth whitening trays are made and the tooth whitening gel is then placed into the trays and worn for 1 hour for 10 – 14 days.  This method of tooth whitening is much more gentle than the in- office system as it is a lower concentration of gel.  If opting for the in-office system, we tend to recommend a couple of days of the at-home tooth whitening gel on top to help stabilise the in-office procedure.

Cosmetic dentist gives back confident smile near Farnborough, Hampshire

September 28th, 2012

Cosmetic dentist Dr Rashid of Time Dental near Farnborough explains how cosmetic dentistry can make a huge impact on your confidence.

“A patient came to see us about gaps between her upper teeth when smiling.  She said she was generally a happy person but due to the gaps she didn’t smile much when in social situations and the colour of her teeth bothered her as she felt they were discoloured.

We talked about her options which ranged from adult orthodontic braces to help close the spaces, porcelain veneers to help close the gaps, or composite bonding.  She liked the idea of minimal preparation on her teeth so composite bonding to close the spaces to give her a confident smile felt like the best option for her.  She was also going away on holiday and wanted her smile to look its best before she went!

After a course of tooth whitening to freshen up her smile, we carried out composite bonding on four of her upper teeth to transform her smile and look her best for her holiday.”

Adult orthodontic braces for healthy smiles at dentist near Farnborough

September 12th, 2012

Straight teeth isn’t just for cosmetic purposes.  It does help to give you confidence if you have crooked teeth and an uneven smile, but it aslo helps to keep your gums healthy.

A patient came to Time Dental near Farnborough looking to straighten his crooked teeth with adult orthodontic braces.  He had braces as a teenager and had not worn any retainers.  Over time his teeth had now drifted back into a crooked position and he was now very self conscious of his smile.  He had heard about invisible adult braces and wanted to know what his options were.

We discussed various options which were fixed orthodontic braces now with tooth coloured brackets to make them more discreet.  Clear aligners which are changed every two weeks and are virtually invisible adult braces.  We also discussed the Inman aligner which is the new wonder brace which is relatively invisible and can move teeth in a matter of weeks.

After showing him photos of his mouth it was clear that due to the crooked teeth he was finding it very hard to keep his mouth plaque and tartar free.  This had resulted in early stages of gum disease.  By straightening his teeth he would not only have a better smile but also be able to keep his gums in much better condition.

How veneers can improve a smile for patients in Farnborough

August 29th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking for a way to improve his smile.  He had a lot of dentistry over the years but this was more remedial care rather than comprehensive dental care.  He had lost his upper front tooth 20 years ago and had a bridge in place which had now chipped due to something he had eaten.  He not only wanted to know his options about the chipped bridge but he also wanted to feel more confident when smiling.  He had changed jobs 2 years ago and was in a more customer facing position.  He was aware that when he smiled he would cover his mouth.

We discussed his options which really depended on what his final goal was. The options for his chipped bridge were either to replace the bridge for a more aesthetic ceramic bridge, or remove the bridge and place a dental implant.  A dental implant is a great way of replacing missing teeth.  The implant replaces the root of the tooth which then holds a post to which a crown is secured in place.  The advantage of a dental implant is that it helps preserve the boney support around that area and there is no need to prepare the teeth on either side of the gap.

To help him with confidence, we also discussed his options of improving the shape and colour of his adjacent teeth with dental porcelain veneers.  Porcelain veneers are thin laminates of ceramic that are bespoke handcrafted to each individual tooth which are bonded to the tooth to improve shape, colour and form.

Straight teeth for adults with orthodontic braces at dentist near Farnborough

August 15th, 2012

A Time Dental we are seeing a number of adult patients looking to straighten their front teeth.  When straightening adult teeth the options used to be very limited to train track braces.  Not any more.  You can have staight teeth with the new invisible adult braces.

A patient came to see us who was unhappy with her crowded wonky upper front teeth.  We discussed her options and she defiinitely did NOT fixed train track braces.  Her other options were the invisible aligner options such as Invisalign or the fast acting Inman aligner.  These two types of braces act in very different ways.

The Inman aligner adult brace can move and straighten teeth in a matter of weeks using very gentle pressure.  So no more tightening of wires!

The invisalign aligner system for adult orthodontics is a braces system that use clear aligners that incrementaly move teeth into the correct position.

Dr Rashid is a certified provider of both adult braces and carries out this treatment for patients in the Farnborough area as well as the rest of Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Berkshire counties.
