Cosmetic dentistry for confident smiles near Farnborough

Cosmetic dentistry isn’t just for the movie stars.  If you have gaps between your teeth, composite bonding is a type of cosmetic dentistry that can make a huge impact on your smile.

A patient came to Time Dental near Farnborough looking for options to close the spaces between her upper front teeth.  She had orthodontic braces in the past and did not wear her retainers and the teeth had subsequently moved.  She wanted something quickly done.

We discussed the options which were adult orthodontic braces, composite bonding and porcelain veneers.  She did not want the adult orthodontic braces even though they would have worked for her.  The gaps could have been closed in the space of 6 months.  Porcelain veneers were also an option however she did not want her teeth to be prepared although the preparation would have been minimal.  However she liked the idea of composite bonding where composite filling is shaped and bonded to the teeth to improve the smile.

Straight teeth with Adult braces at dentist near Godalming, Surrey

Adult braces are becoming more popular these days.  There’s no need to have metal train track braces.  Now you can have straight teeth with Adult orthodontics to hep give you confidence.

A patient came to Time Dental near Godalming looking for options to straighten his upper teeth.  He had orthodontic braces as a child and his teeth had now become crowded again.  This is a very common occurrence due to retainers after the orthodontic treatment not being worn.

On assessing his mouth his main concern was the upper front teeth overlapping.  His options were fixed orthodontic braces that can be tooth coloured running on the outside of the teeth or they can also be fixed onto the inner side of the teeth.  Another option would be clear aligner adult orthodontic braces such as Invisalign.  These are virtually invisible and the clear aligners are changed every 2 weeks to help move the teeth into a straight position.  Another option is the Inman aligner.  This is a removable orthodontic adult brace that uses very gentle pressure to squeeze the teeth into a straighter alignment.  The treatment time can take between 8-18 weeks depending on the initial degree of crowding.

9 top tips to reduce tooth wear from Surrey dentist

Tooth wear can be caused be multiple reasons.  One big cause of tooth wear is due to acid erosion.  Acid erosion can be from certain types of food and drink such as citrus fruits and carbonated drinks.  Another cause could be due to stomach acid reflux.  Time Dental in Farnham, Surrey gives its top tips to help prevent further wear:

  1. Brush effectively yet gently with a soft tooth brush.
  2. Use a low abrasive toothpaste with a high concentration of fluoride
  3. Only consume acidic foods at meal times.
  4. Wait an hour before brushing after consuming acid food/drinks to avoid damaging more vulnerable enamel.
  5. Use a fluoridated mouthwash daily at a different time to brushing and prior to consuming acidic food and drink.
  6. Reduce or eliminate carbonated drinks.
  7. Drink acidic/carbonated drinks through a straw and do not hold or “swish” drinks around the mouth.
  8. Try drinking just still water between meals.
  9. Ensuring snacks are “safe” eg. soft nuts, rice, pasta, vegetables, meat, fish.

Cosmetic dentist for tooth whitening near Farnborough, Hampshire

Dentures are not what they used to be.  Now you can have cosmetic dentures that mimic the look of natural teeth so that you can have a confident smile.

A patient came to Time Dental in Farnham, Surrey looking for help to smile confidently.  He had neglected his dental health and only attended when he was in pain.  This had led to a patch up style dentistry and was not beneficial for his overall dental health.  He had a very bad experience as a child and now he was in his mid seventies and was still apprehensive about dental care.  He had finally decided to explore comprehensive dental care and was looking for a dentist that would provide cosmetic dentistry as well as helping him keep his  mouth healthy.

On assessing his mouth the majority of his remaining teeth had severe gum disease and decay.  This had resulted in hiss teeth becoming very loose and gums sore and bleeding.  When gum disease and dental decay has taken hold to this extent there would be no option but to remove the teeth.  Fortunately this did not mean that he would be left with a gummy smile.  Immediate cosmetic dentures can provisionally provide a confident smile and allow him to chew without being in discomfort.  Once healing of the gums had taken place, the options could be to provide a fixed bridge with dental implants, a cosmetic denture retained by dental implants or a new set of stable dentures.

Adult orthodontic braces for healthy smiles at dentist near Farnborough

Straight teeth isn’t just for cosmetic purposes.  It does help to give you confidence if you have crooked teeth and an uneven smile, but it aslo helps to keep your gums healthy.

A patient came to Time Dental near Farnborough looking to straighten his crooked teeth with adult orthodontic braces.  He had braces as a teenager and had not worn any retainers.  Over time his teeth had now drifted back into a crooked position and he was now very self conscious of his smile.  He had heard about invisible adult braces and wanted to know what his options were.

We discussed various options which were fixed orthodontic braces now with tooth coloured brackets to make them more discreet.  Clear aligners which are changed every two weeks and are virtually invisible adult braces.  We also discussed the Inman aligner which is the new wonder brace which is relatively invisible and can move teeth in a matter of weeks.

After showing him photos of his mouth it was clear that due to the crooked teeth he was finding it very hard to keep his mouth plaque and tartar free.  This had resulted in early stages of gum disease.  By straightening his teeth he would not only have a better smile but also be able to keep his gums in much better condition.
