Patients near Winchester feel confident with dental implants at Time Dental

August 22nd, 2012

Missing teeth need not end in wearing dentures.  A patient came to Time Dental near Winchester having broken his upper front teeth.  One tooth was broken badly and the other front upper tooth was completely lost in his accident.  He was looking for a fixed option as he wanted to feel confident and did not want to end up with dentures.

We discussed his options for a fixed solution which was either a bridge or a dental implant to replace his missing tooth.  Bridges are a great option to replace missing teeth.  They involve preparing the teeth on either side of the gap to replace the missing tooth.  They are fixed in place and can last many years.

The other option was an implant.  An implant is a titanium root which replaces the missing root of the tooth.  The dental implant is precisely and carefully placed by an implant surgeon.  Once the dental implant has integrated which normally takes 3-6 months the implant is exposed so that a post can be placed to hold a crown on the post.  There is no need to touch the teeth on either side of the gap, and implants also help to preserve the bone where the root of the tooth used to be.  This helps in stabilising and maintaining support.

Time Dental provides this implant service for patients in Winchester as well as the surrounding areas in Hampshire, Surrey, West sussex and Berkshire.

Straight teeth with adult invisible braces at dentist near Godalming

August 17th, 2012

Gaps between your front teeth when smiling can have a real knock on affect to your confidence.  Thats exactly what a patient came to see us about at Time Dental near Godalming.  He was a young guy in his early twenties and had always been bothered by the space between his upper front teeth.  He wanted to know what his options were.

We discussed his smile and his options.  The first option was to use the traditional train track braces.  He ruled this out as he wanted something which was not so visible.  The other options were the newer invisible braces. The first option is to use clear aligners for adults.  This relatively new adult orthodontic braces system uses clear aligners which are virtually invisible to straighten the teeth.  Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks and as they are changed they incrementaly move the teeth into a straighter position.  There are many different systems available and your Time Dental dentist will be able to advise which adult clear aligner brace is suitable for you.  Treatment time can take between 8-24 months depending on the type of movements required.

The other option was the Inman aligner.  The new wonder brace.  This is a removable adult orthodontic brace that use use special springs to gently squeeze your teeth into the correct position.  A great option if you want fast results as you can achieve straight teeth in as little as 8-16 weeks.

Straight teeth for adults with orthodontic braces at dentist near Farnborough

August 15th, 2012

A Time Dental we are seeing a number of adult patients looking to straighten their front teeth.  When straightening adult teeth the options used to be very limited to train track braces.  Not any more.  You can have staight teeth with the new invisible adult braces.

A patient came to see us who was unhappy with her crowded wonky upper front teeth.  We discussed her options and she defiinitely did NOT fixed train track braces.  Her other options were the invisible aligner options such as Invisalign or the fast acting Inman aligner.  These two types of braces act in very different ways.

The Inman aligner adult brace can move and straighten teeth in a matter of weeks using very gentle pressure.  So no more tightening of wires!

The invisalign aligner system for adult orthodontics is a braces system that use clear aligners that incrementaly move teeth into the correct position.

Dr Rashid is a certified provider of both adult braces and carries out this treatment for patients in the Farnborough area as well as the rest of Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Berkshire counties.

Dentist near Fleet provides emergency pain free dentistry

August 1st, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental near Fleet for an emergency appointment with a broken tooth.  She had not been to a dentist in 6 years and was very apprehensive as she had a previous bad experience at the dentist which put her off attending regularly for 6 monthly healthy mouth reviews.  He had eaten a seeded bread which result in part of her tooth breaking.  The tooth was now sensitive to cold drinks.

On assessing the tooth the back section of her tooth had indeed broken off.  However the reason why it broke was due to the fact that the tooth had become very decayed.  When decay starts on a tooth and becomes extensive the tooth becomes much weaker.  In her case not only had the tooth now broken but the decay had now reached the nerve of the tooth which is why it was now sensitive to temperature.  If this decay had been caught in its early stages the tooth could have been filled with direct white composite.  Composite fillings when placed by a skilled cosmetic dentist can look like a completely natural tooth.

As the decay had now become so extensive the options for this tooth were either root canal therapy or extraction.  Root canal therapy is a way of keeping your own teeth.  It involves disinfecting the inside of the tooth and filling where the nerve used to be.  The tooth is then often crowned to prevent the tooth from breaking any further.  Crowns can be tooth coloured or metal.  The tooth coloured crowns are made of ceramic which are very strong when bonded to the tooth.  Crowns are an effective way of restoring a weak tooth so that you can bite comfortably and with confidence.

Time Dental provides this service for patients in the Fleet area as well as the surrounding towns in Hampshire, Surrey, West sussex and Berkshire.

Confident smiles for adults with straight teeth at dentist near Alton

July 19th, 2012

A patient came to see us who had crooked upper teeth.  She had always disliked her smile and tried not to show her teeth when she did smile.  She saw our A board advert for straight teeth for adults and decided to pop in for a complimentary consultation to discuss her options.

We discussed the invisible braces options as she was keen on not having to have her teeth prepared for veneers.  One option was to use clear aligners to straighten her teeth.  This uses a series of virtually invisible aligners that are changed every 2 weeks.  The teeth are incrementally moved into position with each aligner.  Treatment time can take anything form 8-24 months depending on what movements need to be achieved.

Another option was the Inman aligner.  This is a revolutionary removable orthodontic appliance for adults who want straight teeth.  It uses special springs to squeeze the teeth gently into position.  As the pressure is gentle there is very little discomfort and the teeth can be moved in 8-16 weeks!  Perfect for adults who want to straighten their teeth fast.  Once the teeth are straightened we advised her to carry out composite bonding on to the edges of one of her teeth.  This was because this particualr tooth was very worn on the corner and by composite bonding restores her mouth to a great smile.

Invisible braces for adults is a service that is provided by Time Dental for patients in the Alton area as well as the surrounding towns in Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and West sussex.

Healthy mouths by replacing mercury fillings at dentist near Farnborough

July 12th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental for a healthy mouth review.  She had not been to see a dentist for sometime and wanted to ensure her mouth was healthy.  She was aware that she had a number of old mercury fillings and did not like the look of them.

On assessing  her mouth her mercury fillings were in fact failing.  The larger mercury fillings had cracks down the tooth and decay had taken hold.  Mercury fillings weaken your teeth overtime, on placement more of the tooth needs to be removed to lock the fillings in which essentially weakens the tooth.  They also exapnd and contract and combined with the forces from chewing, minor cracks in the tooth occur.  Once this happens bacteria can seep into the cracks and start the decay process.  Often the filling can break or the tooth will break.

Catching this early is a great preventative way of keeping the tooth healthy.  Small to medium sized amalgam mercury fillings can be replaced with direct white composite fillings.  Once placed by a skilled cosmetic dentist not only will the tooth be restored to health, but it will look like a natural tooth again.  White composite fillings can last many years, they also bring the strength of the tooth back as they bond and stick to it.

Time Dental provides this service to patients in Farnborough as well as the surrounding towns in Hampshire, Surrey, West sussex and Berkshire.

How to achieve a healthy mouth with cosmetic dentistry at dentist near Godalming

July 5th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking for a new cosmetic dentist.  He had not been for a dental health check for a long time and was aware that he had lots of old mercury fillings that would need replacing and wanted tooth coloured fillings in place. He was looking for a dentist to help him keep his teeth and mouth healthy and so he did some research for dentists local to him and liked the reviews that patients had written about us.

On assessing his mouth he did indeed have a number of large mercury amalgam fillings that were failing.  There were gaps between the tooth and the filling and some teeth had cracks running down them.  Mercury amalgam fillings are being commonly replaced with tooth coloured alternatives.  Mercury fillings acutally expand and contract over time.  When teeth are heavily filled it often leaves the tooth quite weak. When this happens the tooth often breaks due to the weaker cusps.

Direct white composite fillings are excellent for small to medium sized filings.  They bond to the tooth which helps to bring the strength of the tooth back.  They also look completely natural like the original tooth when placed by a skilled cosmetic dentist.  When cavities get to a very large size, onlays are often recommended.  You may be familiar with crowns, they encapsulate the whole tooth; onlays cover the biting surface of the tooth which helps to prevent fracture of the cusps; the margins are higher on the tooth which help you to keep it plaque free; and they are also bonded to the tooth to give it strength.  Onlays can be made of gold, resin or ceramic.

2 steps to a natural smile at cosmetic dentist near Farnborough

July 4th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental having had 2 incisor teeth missing from her upper teeth.  She was only 16 years old and had never had her lateral incisors come through which made her feel very self conscious.  The spaces had closed but she was unhappy with the colour of her teeth and the fact that she looked “fangy” with her 2 incisors missing.

We discussed her options and the steps involved to help her feel more confident.  The simplest way to help her would be a 2 step process. The first step would be to whiten her teeth, and the second step would be to carry out composite bonding on her canines to make them look more like incisors.

Step 1 involved taking impressions of her teeth for her custom fit tooth whitening trays.  There are two main ways for teeth whitening; in-office or professional at-home tooth whitening.  The end result for both tooth whitening systems is the same, the main difference is the speed.  Professional at-home tooth whitening is much more gentle on the teeth, so she wanted to go for this option.  The teeth whitening gel is placed into the custom fit whitening trays and inserted in the mouth and kept in place for 40 minutes.  This process is then repeated once a day for 10-14 days.

Once the fresher appearance of the teeth have been achieved, step 2 involves composite bonding.  This is where composite is added to the canine teeth and bonded into place and shaped to look like incisor teeth.  Composite bonding is an excellent way of improving your smile.  With the current white composite materials a natural appearance can be achieved by a skilled cosmetic dentist.

Time Dental provides this service for patients in Farnborough area as well as the surroundings towns in Surrey, Hampshire, West sussex and Berkshire.

Why replace missing teeth with dental implants at dentist near Guildford?

June 28th, 2012

A patient near Guildford came to Time Dental with a swelling at the gum line on one of her teeth.  She had no pain from it but she noticed the swelling was now getting bigger.

On assessing the tooth in question, it had already been root canal treated and had a crown on top.  The swelling origin was from midway up the root of the tooth.  On further investigation the root had a horizontal break thorough it which rendered the tooth unrestorable.  The only option for the tooth was extraction.

This particular tooth was a molar chewing tooth and so the chewing function for the patient would have been decreased after extraction. The other problem that may occur when losing a tooth is teeth drifting and tilting into the space.  This can result in a change of the bite and also cause gum problems as food would now get stuck between the open spaces of the teeth that have tilted.  The patient was keen on replacing the missing tooth and we discussed her options for filling the gap.

One fixed option would be to have a bridge.  This uses the teeth on either side for support.  A good option for replacing the missing tooth, but it does require shaping the teeth on either side of the gap to fit the bridge.  The other option is a dental implant and crown.

The dental implant is essentially a titanium root that is inserted into the jaw.  Once the dental implant has been integrated a post is fitted to the implant with a crown which fits on the post.  This is a great option for replacing missing teeth as they do not require any preparation of other teeth and the dental impants last many years.  Dental implants have success rates of higher than 95% and are an excellent option for gappy smiles, as well as heping to provide chewing function for back teeth.

Replacing mercury amalgam fillings at a Cosmetic dentist near Alton

June 27th, 2012

A patient came to see us at Time Dental looking for a Cosmetic dentist.  She had a number of old mercury amalgam fillings which she wanted replacing as white composite as they looked like she had holes in her teeth.  She had not been to see a dentist in 18 months and was aware that she was overdue a dental health check.

On assessing her mouth she had early stages of gum disease also known as gingivits.  Her gums were inflammed, red and she reported seeing blood after brushing her teeth.  She also had a number of very old mercury fillings that had been in place since childhood days.  Cracks on the larger mercury amalgam filled teeth were also evident and there were also gaps between the fillings and the teeth which indicated that they were failing.

Mercury amalgam fillings expand and contract over time. Combined with the pressure from chewing, this places an enormous amount of stress on the tooth.  In time micro enamel cracks occur and the tooth or filling will then break. If the fracture is vertical and runs straight thorough the tooth it renders it unrestorable and will have to be removed.

Small to meduim sized mercury fillings are routinely replaced with white composite fillings.  Tooth coloured fillings such as composite actually stick and bond to the tooth which helps give it strength.  Less preparation is required to restore the tooth and expertly placed white composite fillings by a cosmetic dentist can make the tooth look natural.

When mercury fillings get to a large size they actually weaken the tooth which places it risk of breaking.  To protect the weaker part of the tooth often an Onlay is advised.  An onlay covers and protects the biting surface of the tooth.  You maybe familiar with crowns which encapsulate the whole tooth.  An onlay has edges which are higher up which makes it easier for you to keep clean; they are also bonded in place that give it strength.
