Adult orthodontic dental braces from dental practice near Godalming in Surrey

How can you get straight, white teeth fast?  Adult orthodontic braces have come a long way from metal train track braces.  Now you can achieve straight teeth in a matter of weeks.  Take the case above.  This result was achieved in just 18 weeks.

We used a discreet removable orthodontic appliance called the Inman aligner to straighten these teeth.  The secret to the success for this treatment is that the adult orthodontic braces uses very gentle pressure to squeeze the teeth into the right position.  No discomfort and a fast result! Once we had straightened the teeth we carried out tooth whitening and then composite bonding on the edges of the teeth to restore their shape.

Cosmetic dentist gives back confident smile near Farnborough, Hampshire

September 28th, 2012

Cosmetic dentist Dr Rashid of Time Dental near Farnborough explains how cosmetic dentistry can make a huge impact on your confidence.

“A patient came to see us about gaps between her upper teeth when smiling.  She said she was generally a happy person but due to the gaps she didn’t smile much when in social situations and the colour of her teeth bothered her as she felt they were discoloured.

We talked about her options which ranged from adult orthodontic braces to help close the spaces, porcelain veneers to help close the gaps, or composite bonding.  She liked the idea of minimal preparation on her teeth so composite bonding to close the spaces to give her a confident smile felt like the best option for her.  She was also going away on holiday and wanted her smile to look its best before she went!

After a course of tooth whitening to freshen up her smile, we carried out composite bonding on four of her upper teeth to transform her smile and look her best for her holiday.”

Time Dental provides this services for patients in Farnborough and other areas in Hampshire as well as Surrey, west sussex and Berkshire.

How to close gaps in your smile at dentist near Guildford

September 13th, 2012

Gappy smiles can have a real impact on your confidence.  A patient came to Time Dental near Guildford looking for options to brighten her smile and close the spaces between her upper front teeth.  She had orthodontic braces in the past and as she had not worn her retainer so the gaps had opened up and she was very conscious when smiling; to the point where she would cover her mouth with her hand every time she laughed.  She wanted to know what her options were to help her feel confident again.

Once we had assessed her smile we discussed whether she would like the spaces closed using orthodontic braces.  She had heard about clear aligners that were very discreet adult braces and also the Inman aligner which helps to straighten teeth in a matter of weeks.  She told me she was going on holiday in four weeks and would like to look good for that if possible.

In such a small time frame we discussed an alternative option which was composite bonding.  This is a technique that is used to bond tooth coloured composite filling in order to reshape teeth, close gaps, lengthen teeth and improve your smile with immediate effect.  She had discoloured teeth so she was keen to tooth whiten first and then match the composite bonding to her brighter smile.

Time Dental provides this service to patients in Guildford as well as other areas in Surrey, West sussex, Berskshire and Hampshire.

Confident smiles for adults with straight teeth at dentist near Alton

July 19th, 2012

A patient came to see us who had crooked upper teeth.  She had always disliked her smile and tried not to show her teeth when she did smile.  She saw our A board advert for straight teeth for adults and decided to pop in for a complimentary consultation to discuss her options.

We discussed the invisible braces options as she was keen on not having to have her teeth prepared for veneers.  One option was to use clear aligners to straighten her teeth.  This uses a series of virtually invisible aligners that are changed every 2 weeks.  The teeth are incrementally moved into position with each aligner.  Treatment time can take anything form 8-24 months depending on what movements need to be achieved.

Another option was the Inman aligner.  This is a revolutionary removable orthodontic appliance for adults who want straight teeth.  It uses special springs to squeeze the teeth gently into position.  As the pressure is gentle there is very little discomfort and the teeth can be moved in 8-16 weeks!  Perfect for adults who want to straighten their teeth fast.  Once the teeth are straightened we advised her to carry out composite bonding on to the edges of one of her teeth.  This was because this particualr tooth was very worn on the corner and by composite bonding restores her mouth to a great smile.

Invisible braces for adults is a service that is provided by Time Dental for patients in the Alton area as well as the surrounding towns in Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and West sussex.

2 steps to a natural smile at cosmetic dentist near Farnborough

July 4th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental having had 2 incisor teeth missing from her upper teeth.  She was only 16 years old and had never had her lateral incisors come through which made her feel very self conscious.  The spaces had closed but she was unhappy with the colour of her teeth and the fact that she looked “fangy” with her 2 incisors missing.

We discussed her options and the steps involved to help her feel more confident.  The simplest way to help her would be a 2 step process. The first step would be to whiten her teeth, and the second step would be to carry out composite bonding on her canines to make them look more like incisors.

Step 1 involved taking impressions of her teeth for her custom fit tooth whitening trays.  There are two main ways for teeth whitening; in-office or professional at-home tooth whitening.  The end result for both tooth whitening systems is the same, the main difference is the speed.  Professional at-home tooth whitening is much more gentle on the teeth, so she wanted to go for this option.  The teeth whitening gel is placed into the custom fit whitening trays and inserted in the mouth and kept in place for 40 minutes.  This process is then repeated once a day for 10-14 days.

Once the fresher appearance of the teeth have been achieved, step 2 involves composite bonding.  This is where composite is added to the canine teeth and bonded into place and shaped to look like incisor teeth.  Composite bonding is an excellent way of improving your smile.  With the current white composite materials a natural appearance can be achieved by a skilled cosmetic dentist.

Time Dental provides this service for patients in Farnborough area as well as the surroundings towns in Surrey, Hampshire, West sussex and Berkshire.

Adult Braces at Farnham dentist

May 9th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking to improve her smile.  She was unappy that her smile was not straight.  She felt they were also discoloured and she did not like the appearance of a blue line around the gums of an old crown she had at the front of her mouth.

On further investigation, her smile was not straight because her canine tooth was out of line from her other teeth.  Her teeth did have a generalised discolouration and she reported that she drank alot of tea and coffee that stains your teeth.  The crown was over ten years old and was blue at the gum line due to the metal from under the crown showing through.  She also had three porcelain veneers at the front of her mouth which was previously fitted to correct the overlapping crowded front teeth.

In order to straighten her upper teeth especially the canine, there were a couple of options.  The first option was to use orthodontic adult braces to straighten the canine tooth.  Teeth can be straightened with fixed braces or removable Invisalign adult clear braces.  Another option could be to use composite bonding on the canine to lengthen it to bring it into alignment.  Both options are viable to achieve the desired result with the gold standard being the adult orthodontic braces.

Once the teeth had been straightened, professional tooth whitening can be carried out to freshen up the smile.  Professional teeth whitening is an easy safe way to make an immediate improvement to your smile.  One thing she had to bear in mind was that when teeth whitening, crowns, veneers and fillings stay the same shade while the natural teeth will whiten. Once the teeth had been whitened we could replace the old crown with an aesthetic all-ceramic crown which gives tbe best natural look and also replace the old porcelain veneers to match the new fresher whiter smile.

Time Dental provides teeth straightening and teeth whitening for many patients in the Farnham, Fleet, Aldershot, Farnborough and Winchester areas as well as the surrounding areas in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Tooth whitening and composite bonding at dentist near Guildford

April 12th, 2012

A patient came to see us unhappy about the general colouration of his teeth and especially the white flecks on his two front upper teeth.  They had been present since he could remember and it always bothered him especially when he looked back at photos of himself.

We discussed all his options which ranged from tooth whitening, composite bonding, special etching polish and porcelain veneers.

He initally wanted to take the least invasive path, so we started with professional tooth whitening.  There are two types of tooth whitening.  In-office and the professional tooth whitening kit.  He opted for the professional tooth whitening.

This involved taking impressions of his teeth and making custom fit whitening trays.  The custom fit trays are then loaded with the tooth whitening gel and placed in the mouth for 40 minutes.  This process is repeated over 10-14 days.

Once we had whitened his teeth to as light as they could go we reassesd the white flecks.  In some cases tooth whitening is enough to blend the white flecks, but in his case although there was a huge improvement in colour the white flecks were still there. So we went onto the next step which involved special etching polish.

This involved polishig the white flecks with a special etch which in many cases will remove the discoloured / stained fleck.  However in this instance the white flecks were still present.

Our next step involved composite bonding.  We carefully selected the shade of composite to his surronding tooth and masked the white flecks.  This achieved the result that he wanted and he left for home smiling from ear to ear!

Tooth grinding at dentist in Surrey, Farnham

April 10th, 2012

Tooth grinding is a major problem, not only in Farnham, Surrey.  A patient came to see us at Time Dental for a comprehenisve dental examination and consultation.  On discussing his lifestyle he seemed to have a lot of stress in his life.  He had been made redundant form work and he also suffered from back problems and headaches.

On asssessing his mouth, his teeth had mutiple stress lines running through the majority of his teeth.  He also had large cavities to the side of his teeth by the gum line.  The reason why this type of cavity/hole develops is due to a heavy bite and tooth grinding.  The enamel is much thinner on the tooth by the gum line than anywhere else.  When the tooth is under alot of stress due to grinding/ bruxing, the tooth enamel shatters in this area.  This leaves a classic v-shaped notch by the gum line.  This can lead to sensitivity as well as tooth decay as the enamel protective layer is lost.

The first step is to protect and fill the holes up by the gum line.  This is achieved by composite bonding.  Once the tooth is anaesthetised, a white composite filling is placed in the cavity.  Once this is cured the white filling is polished.  The end result is an invisible filling by the gum line by composite bonding which looks and feels like a natural tooth.

In order to prevent reoccurance of cavities by the gum line (abfraction cavities) the cause of the cavities, which is the tooth grinding, must be addressed.  The most effective way to reduce tooth grinding is to provide a biteguard/ splint.  This is worn at night and helps to reduce the tension and muscle stress that tooth grinding can cause.  Using this biteguard can also reduce tension headaches and reduce the risk of teeth and fillings fracturing.
