Fast straight teeth for adults without train track braces at dentist near Fleet

June 29th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking to straighten her teeth as fast as possible.  She was not keen on traditional train track braces for adults.  She had a wedding to go to in September and wanted to look good for it.

We discussed her options interms of invisible adult braces.  One option was the Invisalign clear aligner adult brace sysytem.  This uses discreet clear aligners that are changed every 2 weeks which incrementally move the teeth into the desired position.  Treatment Time can take anything between 8-24 months depending on the movements we needed to achieve.  Although this adult brace system is discreet she wanted to know if there was any other orthodontic brace that could move teeth faster.

The other adult brace option we talked about was the Inman aligner.  This is a removable brace that uses spring loaded coils that squeeze the teeth into the correct position.  It uses very gentle pressure to move the teeth which makes it comforatble to wear unlike traditional braces that are tightened every time you visit the orthodontist.  The Inman aligner is perfect for straightening the front four upper or lower teeth which is what most people are commonly unhappy with.  The aligner is relatively discreet but the main advantage is that it can move teeth in a matter of weeks!  Treatment time to straighten your teeth can typically take between 8-16 weeks.

Time Dental provides this sinnovative traightening teeth service for adults in Fleet and surrounding towns in the Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and West sussex area.

Why replace missing teeth with dental implants at dentist near Guildford?

June 28th, 2012

A patient near Guildford came to Time Dental with a swelling at the gum line on one of her teeth.  She had no pain from it but she noticed the swelling was now getting bigger.

On assessing the tooth in question, it had already been root canal treated and had a crown on top.  The swelling origin was from midway up the root of the tooth.  On further investigation the root had a horizontal break thorough it which rendered the tooth unrestorable.  The only option for the tooth was extraction.

This particular tooth was a molar chewing tooth and so the chewing function for the patient would have been decreased after extraction. The other problem that may occur when losing a tooth is teeth drifting and tilting into the space.  This can result in a change of the bite and also cause gum problems as food would now get stuck between the open spaces of the teeth that have tilted.  The patient was keen on replacing the missing tooth and we discussed her options for filling the gap.

One fixed option would be to have a bridge.  This uses the teeth on either side for support.  A good option for replacing the missing tooth, but it does require shaping the teeth on either side of the gap to fit the bridge.  The other option is a dental implant and crown.

The dental implant is essentially a titanium root that is inserted into the jaw.  Once the dental implant has been integrated a post is fitted to the implant with a crown which fits on the post.  This is a great option for replacing missing teeth as they do not require any preparation of other teeth and the dental impants last many years.  Dental implants have success rates of higher than 95% and are an excellent option for gappy smiles, as well as heping to provide chewing function for back teeth.

Replacing mercury amalgam fillings at a Cosmetic dentist near Alton

June 27th, 2012

A patient came to see us at Time Dental looking for a Cosmetic dentist.  She had a number of old mercury amalgam fillings which she wanted replacing as white composite as they looked like she had holes in her teeth.  She had not been to see a dentist in 18 months and was aware that she was overdue a dental health check.

On assessing her mouth she had early stages of gum disease also known as gingivits.  Her gums were inflammed, red and she reported seeing blood after brushing her teeth.  She also had a number of very old mercury fillings that had been in place since childhood days.  Cracks on the larger mercury amalgam filled teeth were also evident and there were also gaps between the fillings and the teeth which indicated that they were failing.

Mercury amalgam fillings expand and contract over time. Combined with the pressure from chewing, this places an enormous amount of stress on the tooth.  In time micro enamel cracks occur and the tooth or filling will then break. If the fracture is vertical and runs straight thorough the tooth it renders it unrestorable and will have to be removed.

Small to meduim sized mercury fillings are routinely replaced with white composite fillings.  Tooth coloured fillings such as composite actually stick and bond to the tooth which helps give it strength.  Less preparation is required to restore the tooth and expertly placed white composite fillings by a cosmetic dentist can make the tooth look natural.

When mercury fillings get to a large size they actually weaken the tooth which places it risk of breaking.  To protect the weaker part of the tooth often an Onlay is advised.  An onlay covers and protects the biting surface of the tooth.  You maybe familiar with crowns which encapsulate the whole tooth.  An onlay has edges which are higher up which makes it easier for you to keep clean; they are also bonded in place that give it strength.

Time Dental provides this service for patients in Alton as well as the surrounding area of Hampshire, Surrey, West sussex and Berkshire.

Correct your smile with adult braces at dentist near Camberley

June 21st, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental having been referred from another dental practice to correct her smile.  She had always been bothered about how crooked her teeth were, but she was also advised to correct her smile with adult braces in order to help keep her gums healthy.  When you have overlapping teeth they end up being a plaque trap as the crowded teeth are much harder to keep clean.  This leaves you at risk of developing gum disease.

On assessing her mouth she had moderate crowding/ overlapping of her lower front teeth.  We discussed her options for traditional train track orthodontic work which she was not too keen on due to the look of them.  Her alternative option for correcting her smile with adult braces was the Invisalign clear aligner system.

The Invisalign adult braces uses a series of virtually invisible clear aligners that are worn for 2 weeks at a time.  As treatment progresses the aligners gradually move your teeth into the correct position.  As they are removable you can keep your gums and teeth healthy and clean as normal as well as eat the foods you normally eat unlike train-track orthodontic braces.  Treatment time can take between 8-24 months depending on the severity of the original crowding.

Invisalign adult braces is a great option for patients who are conscious of having braces. The adult braces are virtually invisible.  They allow you to keep your mouth healthy during treatment and you can eat your normal food.

Time Dental provides this adult braces Invisalign clear aligners for patients in the Camberley area as well as other areas in Surrey, Hampshire, West sussex and Berkshire.

Cosmetic dentistry at Farnborough dentist

June 20th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking for a cosmetic dentist and to provide dental care to ensure a healthy mouth.  They had looked us up on Google and had read our reviews.  She had not been to a dentist for a while and was looking to replace some of her old amalgam fillings.

On assessing her mouth she had a range of size of amalgam mercury  fillings.  The larger amalgams also had cracks running down the side of the teeth.  Mercury fillings actually weaken your teeth.  On placement of the mercury fillings the tooth is often over prepared to help lock the filling into place.  Over time mercury amalgam fillings expand and contract. Combined with the forces on chewing this can result in cracks occurring within the tooth.  The cracks then propagate and the result is either the tooth breaking, the filling breaking, or decay as a result of the cracks.

When amalgam fillings are at a certain size the cusps of the teeth are often the first to the at risk of breaking.  This is when onlays are recommended to protect the weaker cusps.  Crowns cover and protect the whole tooth by encapsulating it, onlays are lab made restorations that cover the biting surface of the tooth.  There are several advantages of onlays; the edges are high up on the tooth which allow you to keep the tooth plaque free; they can be made of ceramic which makes it very strong; they last longer than direct composite fillings; and they cover and protect the biting surface of the tooth.

Time Dental provides the service for patients in the Farnborough area as well as the surrounding areas in Hampshire, Surrey, West sussex and Berkshire.

Cosmetic dentistry and teeth straightening at dentist near Godalming

June 18th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental looking for a gentle dentist to look after her dental care.  She was also in pain from a tooth that had been broken for 6 months.  She had not been to a dentist in 6-8 years as she had a bad experience in the past and was now completely put off seeing one.

After discussing her inital concerns she told us that she was now experiencing throbbing tooth ache from her broken tooth.  She was also keen to explore the options on straightening her upper teeth.  She had orthodontic treatment as a child but her teeth had now relapsed.

We discussed her options for adult braces to straighten her teeth.  She had quite significant crowding or overlapping of her upper incisors which she was very conscious about.  She was a good candidate for either the Inman aligner or invisalign adult orthodontic system.

The inman aligner is a removable adult brace that is relatively transparent.  It uses springs which gently squeeze the teeth into a straighter position in a matter of weeks.  A great option for adults who are looking for a quick way to straighten their teeth and ahve a confident smile.

Invisalign clear aligner is a virtually invisible adult brace system that uses clear aligners that are worn for 2 weeks at a time.  They gradually move the teeth as each aligner is changed.  Treatment time can take between 8-24 months depending on the movements that need to be done.

Her broken tooth had started to give her pain, so after assessing the tooth the nerve had been infected so root canal therapy was carried out.  Many people dread hearing the words root canal therapy.  This is understandable, however at Time Dental we provide pain-free dentistry and that means you will not be able to feel anything during our treatment time.  Root canal therapy essentially means cleaning the infected root system of the tooth and then filling it so that re-infection cannout occur.

Time Dental provides cosmetic and orthodontic treatment for patients in the Godalmin, Guidford and surrounding areas in Surrey as well as Berkshire, West Sussex and Hampshire.

Straight teeth with invisible adult braces at dentist Farnham

June 14th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental recently looking to improve her smile.  She was always unhappy with her upper front four teeth which protruded at different angles.  She did not want to have fixed train track braces and had heard about invisible braces for adults and wanted to know more about it.

On assessing her mouth she had crowding and overlapping of her upper incisors.  She was a good candidate for both the Invisalign clear aligner system as well as the Inman aligner.

Invisalign invisible braces uses a series of clear aligners that gradually move your teeth over a period of time.  They are virtually invisible and since they are removable you can eat what you normally eat and brush and clean your teeth far easier than with train track braces.  The treatment can take between 8-24 months depending on the severity of the crowding.

The Inman aligner is also a removable brace.  Although it has clear parts to it, it is slightly more visible than the clear aligners.  However it can move teeth in a matter of weeks!  Treatment can take typically 8-16 weeks.  This orthodontic appliance is great if you want fast results.  As it is removable you can also eat normally and brush your teeth as normal.

Both options are a fantastic way for straightening teeth for adults so you can have the smile you have always wanted.

Time Dental provides this service in Farnham, Fleet, Winchester and Alton, as well as other areas in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and West sussex.

How a cosmetic dentist helped a patient near Alton

June 13th, 2012

A patient came to Time Dental unhappy with the colour of their teeth.  She drank lots of tea and coffee and had noticed that her teeth were now discoloured and stained and she wanted to freshen up her smile with professional tooth whitening.

On assessing her mouth her gums had receeded significantly and she had cavities near the gum line of the teeth.  She used a manual tooth brush for her daily home care and had been brushing far too aggressively which resulted in abrasion cavities.  This had exposed the softer dentine part of the tooth which had now started to decay.

After showing her the photos of her mouth we need to get her mouth into a healthy condition first before continuing with her tooth whiteing.  We completed the mutiple fillings using composite bonding with a slighter lighter shade of composite.  This was to account for tooth whitening that she was planning to do.

Once completing the fillings we were now ready to professionally whiten her teeth.  There are two main types.  In-office tooth whitening and professional at-home tooth whitening.  The end result of both systems is the same, the in-office system is simply faster.  The professional tooth whitening system is a gentler way of tooth whitening.  This is where tooth whitening gel is placed into custom fit special trays which are then placed in the mouth for 40 minutes.  This process is then repeated daily for 10 -14 days.

Time Dental provides this service for patients in the Alton, Farnborough, and Fleet area as well as other areas of Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire.

Gum disease causes tooth loss at Dentist near Fleet

June 7th, 2012

A patient came to see us at Time Dental with loose teeth.  He had not been to see a dentist in eight years as he had a bad experience where he could feel the treatment being carried out.  He was now concerned that he would lose his teeth.

On further discussion of why he had not been to see a dentist, the local anaesthetic that was used by his previous dentist had not worked.  So we assured him that any treatment that was to be carried out we would make sure he was anaesthetised and we would test the tooth being treated before we started.

On examination he had advanced gum disease on specific teeth, and unfortunately some of these teeth could not be saved.  Gum disease results in the boney support being destroyed making the tooth loose.  But its not all and news.  Even though he had lost his natural tooth, missing teeth can still be replaced.

The gold standard being dental implants.  Once his gum disease is under control and stabilised, dental implants can be inserted to replace the missing teeth and restore his bite.

Dental implants are titanium roots that replace a tooth root.  The implant then holds a post (abutment) which in turns holds a crown.

Time Dental provides this service to patients not only in the Fleet, Farnborough, Guildford, Alton and Godalming areas but also surrounding areas in Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire.
