A new year- a new you with a smilemakeover at Fleet dentists

January 4th, 2012

The new year has begun, so why not treat yourself to a new you by improving your confidence with a smilemakeover. No longer just for celebrities, a smilemakeover can transform your life.

The inital process is to find out what it is that bothers you about your smile. Are they discoloured, uneven, out of proportion? Do you have an unsightly old crown? Or even gaps and twisted teeth? Photographs and impressions are taken of your mouth which allows the master technician to provide a 3D preview of what your new smile could look like. We can even perform a computer simulation on your photos to see what can be done.

A smilemakeover can be a combination of porcelain veneers, crowns, onlays; all depending on what is necessary to achieve the smile that you want. Porcelain veneers are thin laminates of porcelain that are bespoke handcrafted individually made by the master ceramist. Porcelain crowns are robust restorations that cover the entire surface of the tooth. They are normally indicated when the tooth is weak in structure and would benefit from protecting the whole tooth so that it will not break when used for biting and chewing.

Once the 3D preveiw has been agreed a visit is required for preparation of the teeth. This is all carried out under local anaesthetic so that it is completely comfortable for you. Using the 3D models you will be given your new smile. This allows you to test run your smile before the final porcelain veneers and crowns are made.

On the final visit the porcelain veneers and crowns are bonded in permanently and your new smile is complete!

Cosmetic dentistry in Guildford

January 4th, 2012

Why not give your confidence a boost at Time Dental in Farnham with a smilemakeover? If you live in Guildford you are only a short drive or train ride from the leading cosmetic dental practice in Farnham, Surrey.

An instant improvement for your smile can be achieved by the use of porcelain veneers. Porcelain laminate veneers can be used to correct many unsightly tooth conditions such as discoloured, chipped, mishapen, crooked, spaced short and uneven teeth.

Your first visit will be a consultation with the cosmetic dentist. This session is to gather all the information necessary to provide you with a fantastic smile. Photographs will be taken and sometimes a computer simulation can be carried out to see how your smile could look like. Impressions are also taken of your teeth which are sent to our master lab technician where they will provide a 3D preview of what your smilecould look like.

Once the 3D preview has been given your approval, the next session will be the preparation for your porcelain veneers. This is carried out under local anaesthetic so that it is completely comfortable for you. The teeth are recontoured to provide space for the laminate veneers. Once impressions are taken of your teeth we provide your trial smile using the 3D preview model. This allows you to test run your new smile so that you are completely happy with the look of your new smile. Our master ceramist will then fabricate your individual bespoke handcrafted porcelain veneers. Whether if its one veneer or mulitple veneers, each is a work of art by the ceramist.

The next visit is the bonding stage of your porcelain veneers. This is again normally carried out under anaesthetic for your complete comfort. Once they are bonded to your teeth they are very strong and if cared for correctly will last you many years and give you the confidence you have always wanted.

Wisdom teeth problems at a dentist near Godalming

January 4th, 2012

A client came to see us recently for his healthy mouth session with the hygienist. Although his dental health had improved since seeing the hygienist he was still brushing only once a day. He had a wisdom tooth in his top right side that was sticking out to the side and was also non-functioning- meaning that he had no opposite wisdom tooth so he was not using the upper wisdom tooth for chewing. As it was sticking out to the side, he was unable to keep it clean. Plaque bacteria was building up around the tooth and it was also causing the gums on the tooth in front to bleed and swell.

Healthy gums should not bleed. When you brush or floss properly there should be no blood at all. Bleeding gums mean that they are inflammed due to the gums reaction to the plaque bacteria. If this is left in place the bacteria hardens and becomes tartar. This acts like a coral reef of bacteria around the tooth. The plaque bacteria can then progress under the gum line and destroy the supporting bone around the tooth. This is called periodontitis. Eventually the tooth will fall out due to the lack of support from the surrounding bone.

The best way to prevent this from happening is to brush twice a dayand also clean interdentally (between the teeth). Visiting the hygienist regularly for a healthy mouth review is a great way to ensure your home care is at its best and to highlight any potenital problem areas. Early stages of gum disease which is called gingivitis can be stopped.

Invisalign comes to a practice near Fleet

January 4th, 2012

A client came to see us recently wanting to improve his confidence when smiling.  His felt that his front teeth were not straight which he was becoming more self conscious about.  He wanted to know his options of what could be done to help him feel more confident especially since his work involved meeting lots of new people all the time.

He had a very deep bite where his top and bottom teeth overclosed considerably.  He also had gaps between his upper front teeth, and his lower front teeth were very uneven and crowded.

We discussed his options.  One option would be to provide dental veneers which would improve the position of his teeth by closing the gaps between them.  Dental veneers are a fantastic way of instantly improving the smile. The porcelain veneers are bespoke handcrafted restorations created by a master ceramist.

Another option would be to use braces to push the teeth into the correct position. The patient was not keen on the traditional type of train track braces as he would feel very self consious about them so we discussed the option of using Invisalign clear aligners. Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that incrementaly move your teeth into the correct position. As they are clear they are virtually invisible which is a great advantage for an adult. Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks.

This option was perfect for our client and although the treatment time would take longer than having porcelain veneers. He was happy to proceed with Invisalign.
